The Energy Sector Senior Associate - Power Systems Operation will support the technical delivery across our projects focused on clean energy, decarbonization, and the alignment of sustainable energy policies with best practices globally. You will also have the opportunity to support the acquisition, delivery and management of a portfolio of Tetra Tech projects, help execute a business development plan for Europe and Eurasia and cooperate closely with other Tetra Tech operating units with a view to collaborating on new opportunities and approaches for new clients.   

Position responsibilities

  • Support the delivery and management of a portfolio of Tetra Tech ES projects and help execute a business development plan for Europe & Eurasia in line with the overall growth strategy.
  • Support other global pursuits and technical delivery across our projects focused on clean energy, decarbonization, and the alignment of sustainable energy policies with best practices globally.
  • Independently provide support to power system operations, SCADA systems, TSO-DSO coordination, network analysis, steady-state as well as dynamics, grid interconnection studies, transmission and distribution network planning as well as other power system studies and analyses
  • Cooperate closely with other Tetra Tech operating units in Europe, with a view to collaborating on new opportunities and approaches to new clients.
  • Under the direction of a senior team member, interact directly with clients, work as part of a team on complex assignment projects.
  • Raise Tetra Tech ES' profile in the market through outreach and knowledge sharing on global emerging practices related to the energy transition and evolving technologies.
  • Represent Tetra Tech ES as a thought leader at conferences, webinars and on social media platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive energy sector experience in electricity utilities and/or consulting firms.
  • Understanding of the European energy market, and related regulatory framework (energy acquis).
  • Experience working in power system operations and/or planning, with a deep understanding of power system modeling, load flow calculations, contingency analysis, renewable energy intermittency impacts, dynamic and short-circuit analysis, shunt reactor planning and energy storage technologies integration.
  • Experience in working within the power sector, with a deep understanding of power system operations, SCADA systems, TSO-DSO coordination, network analysis, steady-state as well as dynamics, grid interconnection studies, transmission and distribution network planning.
  • Proficient in corporate strategy analysis frameworks and data-driven decision-making.
  • Skilled in transitioning between varied functions — analytical to creative, strategy to execution.
  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit through hustle, grit and resilience.
  • Excellent communicator, adept at listening, empathizing and effectively engaging with communicating diverse audiences, especially customers and partners, to achieve win-win solutions and deep and build long-term relationships.
  • Highly self-aware and humble, eager to tackle uncomfortable situations or new challenges.
  • Intellectually agile and curious with superb analytical skills and a can-do problem-solving attitude.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Willing to travel internationally to project locations and conferences.

Valued Qualifications

  • Oral and written communication skills in Russian or Ukrainian.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, economics, environmental sciences, law, or business administration.
  • Experience in the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe.
  • Experience in market modeling, adequacy analysis.
  • Hands-on expertise in data analysis and programming tools such as Python, MATLAB, VBA.
  • Experience working with a variety of clients, to include MDBs and donors.

Physical demands & work environment

  • The role will involve some travel depending on the nature of the work required, up to 25% of the time.
