The opportunity

The Role:
The NRC will engage the Disaster Recovery Communications Adviser to execute a communications strategy, including overhauling and updating its communications channels to better serve its members and deliver accurate and up to date information shared with all members and stakeholders, and an increased reputation via regular interaction between the NRC's Government representatives and the private sector. This position will also support all aspects of communications in relation to the Government of Vanuatu's earthquake recovery in collaboration with management and team members within DSPPAC.
Key responsibilities
- Implement snap communications needs assessment for each stakeholder group and create a communications strategy that can be implemented by NRC and ROC, as required.
- Coordinate with ROC staff, members of the NRC and each sub-committee to develop communication materials, including briefing videos and press releases.
- Update and revamp NRC social media, as required, and provide guidance on how content could be replicated across other platforms.
- Undertake daily monitoring activities of initiatives and newsworthy updates and disseminate to the public via Facebook posts and in regular written press releases.
- Work with the DSPPAC team to establish a strong earthquake recovery communications system.
- Work with the DSPPAC team to create awareness-raising materials, social media updates, press releases, website, radio or TV content, and any other necessary communications, which are tailored to specific audiences, including the public and affected communities.
- Provide communications training and mentoring, as directed by DSPPAC Management.
- Support and coordinate the content creation and production of key reports, as directed by DSPPAC Management.
- Develop guidelines to ensure cross-cutting issues such as gender equality and disability inclusion are considered in all communications, and that communications products are accessible and relevant to key audiences, including people with disabilities, women and children.
- Carry-out day-to-day tasks, including attendance at relevant coordination meetings, and any necessary external meetings, to assist DSPPAC team members in communicating updates and gathering updates in face-to-face forums.
- Develop guidance material, tools and templates, to support the ongoing communications work of DSPPAC after the deployment is complete.
Selection criteria
- More than 5 years' experience in the field of humanitarian communications.
- One-to-two years' experience in monitoring and evaluation with a background and interest in analyzing socio-economic issues and related policy matters.
- At least five years' experience using computers and office software packages, including MS Word, Excel, WordPress, Adobe, and other web-based management systems.
- Demonstrated relevant experience in developing and delivering disaster recovery communications across various channels, inclusion social medial, website content and producing information, education and communication materials.
- A bachelor's degree, as a minimum, with master's degree in emergency management, Communications, Disaster Risk Reduction, or a related field preferred.
- Fluency in English, Bislama (Desirable), French (Desirable)
