Overview

The Vermont Agency of Digital Services is seeking an IT Systems Developer to join our Mainframe team. Duties involve systems analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and maintenance of new or existing software applications. 

 

The IT Systems Developer will: 

  • Be familiar with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and follow our SDLC checklist
  • Follow established processes 
  • Consult with users to identify current operating procedures, clarify program objectives and elicit business requirements
  • Create technical specifications to meet user requirements
  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop and maintain software
  • Build clean and efficient code by employing thorough software testing
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements 
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for new and existing applications
  • Maintain systems by monitoring and correcting software defects

 

The ideal candidate will be a person that is self-motivated, a quick learner and has experience working as part of a team. The work associated with this position involves being able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines while handling multiple tasks at once often dealing with changing requirements and feedback, so a potential candidate should have excellent time management and problem-solving skills. The candidate must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships and be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Environmental Factors

Duties are generally performed in a standard office setting. Some work outside of regular work schedule may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits

 

OR

 

Two (2) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.

Preferred Qualifications

Mainframe experience coding in Natural, JCL, and ADABAS.
Knowledge of Vermont Medicaid Programs and Fuel Assistance (Federal LIHEAP program) processes, concepts, and terminology, as well as HIPAA standards.
