Overview
This "Rounds Cook-style" position has a varying schedule, covering all shifts in the kitchen at VPCH. This position will be responsible for the preparation and execution of meals and snacks for the patients of the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital, as well as stock rotation, sanitation and cleaning, daily. This requires reading and scaling recipes to the volume of need, baking, knife work, overseeing food storage and food safety practices. It requires being able to lift up to 50 pounds, standing on your feet most of the shift, and tolerating a warm kitchen. Strict dietary and sanitation guidelines need to be adhered to for both patient safety and health at all times. This position communicates with other departments within the hospital; excellent interpersonal communication skills are needed.

Thursday (7:45AM-4:30PM)
Friday & Saturday (5:30AM-2PM)
Sunday & Monday (9:30AM-6PM)

Environmental FactorsWork is performed in an institutional kitchen during an assigned shift. Incumbents must be able to operate cutters and slicers, handle knives, lift heavy weights (up to 60 lbs.) and work under conditions of high heat and humidity. Duties include supervision of institutional residents or inmates in work situations.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year or more of experience in volume cooking.
OR
High School diploma or equivalent AND completion of a high school level culinary arts career preparation program.
OR
Completion of a formal course in commercial food preparation.
Special RequirementsNote: Incumbents employed by the Vermont Veterans' Home, River Valley Therapeutic Residence and Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital must be ServSafe Certified within the first six months of employment.
