Job Summary: Provide adapted physical education servcies district wide
CLASS SUMMARY: To provide educational services to students requiring adapted physical education (A.P.E.) and to serve as a district consultant in matters related to those children. To promote positive attitudes about and toward Special Education, and to assist the District Special Services Department in meeting program and audit compliance requirements.
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree & Alaska Adapted PE Certificate / Special Education Required, Type A teaching certificate
Knowledge: Knowledge of State and Federal Special Education regulations.
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry): Graduation from an accredited program for adapted physical education. Three (3) years experience in adapted physical education, of which 2 years must be in Pediatrics or public school. Experience in development and implementation of adapted physical education, I.E.P.s and translating test data into concrete educational prescriptions.
DUTY NO. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1 1 Provides direct and consultative services to students requiring A.P.E. services on an itinerant basis. 2 Participates in the Child Study Team for students requiring A.P.E. services. 3 Participates in the I.E.P. planning to help coordinate A.P.E. goals and objectives with the total educational program. 4 Facilitates optimum functioning and enhances a student's ability to learn and develop through appropriate educational aids and programs. 5 Engages in a consulting/training relationship with individuals within the educational system. 6 Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding students with A.P.E. needs. 7 Conducts evaluations appropriate to determine the adapted needs of referred students and formulates necessary reports, assists parents, staff and other concerned individuals to understand those results. 8 Assists the Assistant Director of Special Services in preparing Special Education reports required by State and Federal agencies. 9 Assists the classroom teacher in determining whether the goals for the student are being met by maintaining a data base which consistently shows the student's present level of performance. 10 Maintains a log of contacts (parents, teachers, etc.) including dates, locations, type of communication and brief content summary. 11 Assists the Assistant Director of Special Services in developing and presenting inservice training programs for school personnel and parents when appropriate. 12 Interprets and promotes the program and its purposes to the school and community. 13 Maintains current knowledge in the professional area including pertinent Federal Law and State Special Education regulations. 14 Assists in and cooperates with necessary modification and implementation of the screening and referral system as needed. 15 Monitors students' progress and updates IEPs in accordance with district procedures. 16 Other duties as assigned.
