Qualifications
Required:
- Be enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Solid State Physics, Materials Engineering, or Material Science.
- Have well-articulated willingness to learn program/organizational processes and procedures.
- Have a proven track record of fundamental and novel research.
- Demonstrate creative thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
- Have strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to delve into technical details and translate those into findings and recommendations.
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret or Top-Secret security clearance.
Desired:
- Strong programming skills – coding experience in C++, FORTRAN, and/or Python.
- Capable of obtaining and maintaining an active Department of Defense (DoD) TS/SCI Clearance.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a smart, energetic, and dedicated individual who is actively pursuing a Master's or PhD degree in Solid State Physics, Materials Engineering, or Material Science to work alongside an SPA mentor in support of DTRA Research & Development programs concerning Direct Energy and Nuclear Technologies. The successful intern will be a quick learner and key contributor to analysis, projects, presentations, technical reports, and discussions.
This internship is primarily in office work with occasional telework allowed. Timeline for this job opportunity: We are currently accepting applications for this paid internship and will make offers contingent on the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance for a summer 2025 start date.
