Manager, Technical Writing

Position Summary:
The Technical Writing Manager will oversee the Technical Writing Team within the Research & Development department.  This position will require direct supervision of developing, editing, and maintaining proper control of all technical documentation within SIG SAUER.  The Technical Writing Manager maintains a strong ability to collaborate with different business units within SIG SAUER and DoD technical writers to ensure a product that exceeds the expectations of various end user audiences.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
*Drive strategy to develop, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation content.
*Actively create technical content for end-users and internal employees by collaborating with all internal business units.
*Develop, maintain, and refine technical documentation control records, standard operating procedures, and processes.
*Enable ease of sharing and contributing of technical knowledge within the company.
*Partner closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that documentation is of high quality, easily discoverable, intuitive to follow, and simple to maintain.
*Use mechanical abilities to manipulate SolidWorks CAD models to depict specific functions for manuals.
*Create assemblies in CAD from existing parts.
*Support internal and external requests for graphic design (external vendor requests, graphics to support engineering PowerPoint presentations, R&D monthly newsletter).
*Manage each team member's individual skills to be more efficient and ensure deadlines are met
*Identifying, establishing, administering, and maintaining the technical document management platform for storing, organizing, and enabling user access to technical and procedural documents.
*Engage with our customers to learn how we can improve their documentation experience.
*Maintain and revise documents as products evolve.
*Provide user support for content access issues for the document management system.
*Liaison with Government technical writers, provide support during DoD manual Validation/Verification events and Logistic Demonstrations.
*Work closely with printing vendors to ensure we are getting the best value for product delivered and that files are properly formatted eliminating any additional preparation cost.
*Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
*Manages, participates in and sustains 5S Standards
*Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
*Must be able to travel
*Regular on-site attendance/punctuality is a necessary function of this position.
*May be required to work in other functional areas and/or facilities depending on business needs.
*May be required to work overtime or alternate shifts based on business needs.
*Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:
*Bachelor's Degree in graphic design, communications, English or equivalent required.
*10+ years of experience in equivalent field required.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Highly skilled in MS Office products, SolidWorks (CAD), SolidWorks Composer, Adobe Suite Applications (In-Design, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator).
*Strong attention to detail and ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences to include military end users.
*Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking.
*Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced setting and manage assignments with tight deadlines from multiple sources.
*Prior Firearm Armorer experience or technical background in firearms and prior experience writing DoD related technical documents.
*Prior supervisory position experience preferred.
*Experience using and maintaining firearms is preferred.

Working Conditions:
*Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
*Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
*Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
*Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
*Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
