- Job Details
- Critical care registered nurses are adept at providing care in settings where patients have suffered a heart attack, stroke, shock, severe trauma, respiratory distress or other severe medical issues.
- Specific duties include assessing a patient's condition, planning and implementing care plans, treating wounds, providing advanced life support, and assisting physicians in performing procedures.
- Observing and recording patient vital signs, ensuring ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly, administering intravenous fluids and medications, and collaborating with the critical care team.
- Responding to life-saving situations using nursing standards and protocols for treatment and acting as a patient advocate.
- Providing education and support to patient families.
- Some may also care for pre- and post-operative patients, serve as case managers and policy makers, or perform administrative duties.
- Job Requirements
- Must have ID RN or multi-state compact license.
- Must have ACLS & BLS certifications; RQI certifications not accepted.
- Must have 2 years recent ICU experience.
