We are currently seeking a motivated Systems Administrator Senior Principal to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, network security, and system performance, by managing complex system implementations, troubleshooting critical issues, leading system upgrades, and ensuring optimal system availability, while also mentoring junior administrators, all requiring strong technical expertise in operating systems, networking, security protocols, and excellent problem-solving and communication skills; key responsibilities include capacity planning, performance optimization, data protection, and proactive security measures.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of long-term IT infrastructure strategies, including capacity planning, system upgrades, and technology roadmaps.
  • Manage and maintain operating systems, servers, network devices, and applications across the organization.
  • Enforce robust security policies, managing user access controls, vulnerability assessments, and incident response procedures.
  • Monitor system performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing performance tuning techniques to ensure optimal system efficiency.
  • Oversee data backup strategies, test data restoration processes, and ensure data integrity.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, including hardware failures, software conflicts, and network connectivity problems.
  • Mentor and coach junior system administrators, assigning tasks, and providing technical guidance.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with technology vendors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely support.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including procedures, best practices, and knowledge base articles.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master's level degree in Electrical/Electronic/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
  • Seven (7) years professional experience in systems administration.
  • Strong proficiency in various operating systems (Windows, Linux), network protocols, scripting languages, database management, and cloud computing platforms.
  • Excellent analytical skills to identify root causes of complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of system administrators.
  • In-depth knowledge of security best practices, threat mitigation strategies, and compliance regulations.
  • Ability to stay updated with emerging technologies and quickly adapt to changing IT landscape.
  • Project management skills to plan, execute, and monitor system implementation projects.
  • Working knowledge of network administration and troubleshooting of Cisco routing and switching.
  • Experience administering VMware ESXi, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Windows Server Operating Systems.

Required Certificate:

  • Must possess a Department of Defense (DoD) 8570 CSWF certification.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
