Organization Overview

Our work focuses on several different aspects of molecular virology, biochemical and structural virology, viral pathogenesis,and vaccine development. The laboratory studies animal RNA viruses, including hepatitis C virus (HCV), yellow fever virus (prototype flavivirus), bovine viral diarrhea virus (a pestivirus), and Sindbis virus (a togavirus).
Overview

The Research Assistant will study the mechanisms of attenuation of the live-attenuated yellow fever vaccine, study antiviral compounds and their mechanism of action against flaviviruses, and develop nanobody reagents for pathogen neutralization and detection.

 


Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Performing assays related to virus replication and host responses
  • Performing in vitro binding and neutralization assays
  • Generating virus stocks and quantify stocks and virus samples from experiments
  • Performing in vivo pathogenesis and inhibition assays in the mouse model
  • Performing related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested

Qualifications

Required:

 

  • A Bachelor's degree in the Biological Sciences, a high degree of organization, and the ability to work independently are essential for the position
  • Projects for this job entail work with human pathogens that require biosafety containment and compliance with biosafety procedures
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must

 

Preferred:

 

  • Experience in cell culture, molecular biological techniques such as cloning, DNA preparation, PCR, RNA extractions, and working with viruses and mice are preferred but not required upon starting the position

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.


Compensation Range: Min

USD $50,000.00/Yr.
Compensation Range: Max

USD $55,000.00/Yr.
