Working with Richardson opens the door to a world of possibility. We currently have an opportunity for a Product Development Scientist located at our new Richardson Innovation Centre in downtown Winnipeg. This position is responsible for bringing new food and ingredients to the marketplace while providing technical support to sales and operations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, investigate and execute product innovation projects that support customer needs within the marketplace

  • Develop and commercialize food products from product prototype and plant trials to commercialization of products

  • Assess, troubleshoot and resolve customer complaints and product line issues in collaboration with sales and operations

  • Present new products and changes to sales, operations and customers

  • Develop product and ingredient specifications for internal/external use

  • Collect samples, analyze results and make recommendations for process improvements

  • Conduct shelf-life studies on current and new products

  • Up to 25% travel within Canada to processing plants; conducting trials, first production and ongoing production support

Qualifications:

  • Degree in food science, chemistry, biochemistry, similar science degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education, ideally 2-4 years' experience in the food industry

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to present findings to stakeholders

  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities 

  • Strong understanding of food and ingredient production and processes to translate laboratory concepts to finished products

  • Sound demonstrable knowledge and understanding of lab safety/equipment, food processes, food science including food safety

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and trends with food and ingredients
