Summary:
This position will assist in the overall function, quality of care and the financial progress of the Optical Clinic. The position will assist in supervision of the Optical Clinic to ensure Federal, State, Local, and Tribal regulatory compliance requirements. This will include all applicable licensing and certification requirements for staff. Diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system. Examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment. May prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions. Oversee case and disease management programs.
Responsibilities:
* Assist with development, documentation, updates, and maintenance of compliance with Optical Clinic standard operating procedures
* Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.
* Analyze test results and develop treatment plans
* Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
* Coordinate department prescriptions and pricing with Pharmacy.
* Coordinate department vendors and samples in compliance with division policy and procedures.
* Develop services offered to enhance patient experience
* Ensure supply chain quality control with pricing, inventory, and vendor compliance.
* Educate and counsel patients and staff on contact lens, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
* Consult with and refer patients to other health care practitioners when additional medical treatment is determined necessary
* Remove foreign bodies from the eye.
* Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care.
* Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
* Provide vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation.
* Order and provide primary interpretation of laboratory studies.
* Participate and represent department in all division department quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards and objectives.
* Directly oversee and manage the optical staffs' day to day operations/daily tasks to optimize department productivity.
* Ensure coordination and balance of department's staff work schedule to meet patient care needs.
* Coordinate with department supervisors to balance staff workload to optimize productivity.
* Serve as department liaison in addressing all patient and staff feedback complaints, concerns, and misconduct.
* Participate directly with the department supervisor in staff performance reviews
* Serve as a first point of contact for conflict resolution with staff in accordance with already established HRD procedures.
* Perform quarterly chart audits of the Optical Director in accordance with division policy.
* Assist division staff to ensure timely and proper credentialing of department employees.
* Represent department in division meetings relevant to job duties/responsibilities.
* Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting required department meetings.
* Assist the Optical Director to develop a fiscally responsible and balanced department budget.
* Work directly with the Optical Director to identify and generate necessary department reports.
* Assume the Optical Director duties and job responsibilities in absence of Optical Director.
* Record organized, legible entries in patient record, including referrals and correspondence with outside Physicians and Optometrists.
* Develop, coordinate, and refine patient referrals with Purchased Referred Care and patient/provider appeals with Utilization Review Committee.
* Participate in Head Start and Tribal school screenings as needed.
* Provide ongoing training for Para optometric personnel in the areas of optometric assistant and optical procedures.
* Identify department staff continuing education to keep abreast of new technology and advances in the optical industry.
* Serve as clinical instructor for students, interns, and clinical educational placements.
Skills:
Essential:

* Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments
* Ability to manage optometric office
* Knowledge of management and leadership techniques
* Ability to read and interpret medical records
* Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of ocular photography, including fundus photography

* Wisconsin License to practice Optometry
* certification in the use of diagnostic and therapeutic pharmaceuticals
Nonessential:
* Oneida Certification on Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect within ninety (90) days of employment
* Must be CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certified or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment. Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment.
