NRECA International is a not-for-profit organization and a subsidiary of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), a national trade association providing advocacy, financial services and business support services to over 900 consumer owned electric cooperatives across the country. We are looking for an experienced Sr. Project Manager to coordinate and lead project teams for short and medium-term electrification projections in developing economies. The right candidate will have experience working internationally, project management expertise, knowledge of electrical distribution system design and network analysis and a commitment to our mission of community development in underserved parts of the world.
Summary of Position:
Leads project implementation and manages teams. Oversees project expenditures in alignment with budgetary limits and timely completion of deliverables. Develop proposals in coordination team members, drafts technical descriptions of project proposals and assists in selecting the right people to contribute to proposals. Responsible for quality control of all deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and mentors project team members as appropriate in a matrixed environment.
- Provides project management reports to NRECA International leadership.
- Participates in consultative project assignments, such as grid extension, loss control, system upgrades/improvements, small power generation, and rural electrification planning/assessments/studies.
- Prepares and/or coordinates work product required by project and program sponsors.
- Gathers and evaluates technical and field information/data relating to the development, implementation, and evaluation of electrification projects and makes field visits to evaluate local project conditions.
- Supports proposal preparation or develops material necessary for their preparation.
- Responds to requests for information in small power systems, specifically regarding applications in rural areas of developing economies.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Master's degree in engineering or similar technical field.
- 8 years' experience in rural electrification including electrical distribution system design, distribution network analysis, economic and/or financial analysis, and specific experience in project management.
- Foreign language competencies greatly preferred but not essential.
- Experience working internationally, preferably in low and middle income countries
- Knowledge of electrical distribution system design and distribution network analysis.
- Knowledge of economic/financial analysis best practices for electric cooperatives.
- Ability to organize and manage time, multi-task, operate under pressure and prioritize projects (or work) using effective organization skills.
- Ability to use project management platforms and tools.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.
- Ability to analyze facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to work persuasively and collaboratively with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to lead highly visible multidisciplinary project/program teams or initiatives.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations and training workshops in English and preferably in other languages.
- Ability to travel internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PMP certification preferred.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
