Description

The Accounting Supervisor will serve as a key member of the accounting team reporting directly to the Accounting Manager.  This role will be a key partner within the accounting team in day-to-day activities, special projects, and business process improvements with focus on ensuring timely and accurate completion of essential duties including month-end closing, variance analysis, and accurate preparation of financial results.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and own the monthly general ledger close process in compliance with established deadlines
  • Serve as a key contact for inquiries regarding the general ledger
  • Ensure proper accounting policies and principles are followed in accordance with NAIC statutory accounting policies
  • Ensure transactions are recorded, documented, reviewed, and supported in accordance with company policies, and NAIC statutory accounting policies
  • Partner with Finance Business Process Unit to reconcile and/or review general ledger accounts, roll-forward schedules, and investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner
  • Partner with FP&A to determine intercompany allocation of expenses
  • Contribute to the monthly close process inclusive of allocations, journal entry postings, etc.
  • Assist in annual audit with external auditors
  • Ensure compliance of internal controls over financial reporting as related to Model Audit Rule
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and analysis
  • Support company-wide strategic initiatives


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting is preferred; Master's Degree, CPCU or CPA a plus
  • 5 + years of accounting or related experience
  • 2 + years of supervisory responsibilities
  • Previous experience in the Property/Casualty insurance industry preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point)
  • Ability to cultivate innovation
