Job Description:
Under the leadership of the department director and/or assistant director, the staff speech/language therapist (SLP) is responsible for supporting the mission of the hospital by providing skilled speech and language therapy services to patients who have suffered from neurological disease, CVAs, head injuries, respiratory compromise, head and neck cancer and/or other medical complications. The SLP uses evidence-based diagnostics and treatment methods to improve quality of life in patients with cognitive-linguistic impairments, speech or motor disorders, receptive and expressive language disorders, voice disorders, swallowing disorders, and augmentative and alternative communication strategies. The SLP interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professionals involved in patient care in the acute and outpatient setting.
Education
Masters of Arts or Masters of Science in Speech/Language Pathology or Audiology.
Doctorate degree preferred.
Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.
Licensure/Certifications
California State Speech Language Pathologist license; or Clinical Fellow.
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required.
