Description
Supervises security staff; monitors and provides protection and security for hospital buildings and premises, and for associates, patients, and visitors. Assists with managing of the daily operations of the Security Department. Patrols hospital property responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations. Security Officers are essential associates in a 24/7 environment and may be required to be flexible with scheduling and work "off-shifts." Must obtain and maintain a connection to corporate security leadership and State of Maryland and/or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department Special Police Officer commission to carry out duties associated with crime control and response, designated as an Unarmed Officer, assigned and deployed with the hospital consistent with the limitations of the Unarmed SPO commission from the Maryland State Police or District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
- 5-7 years of progressively more responsible job-related security or prior law enforcement experience required
- Experience healthcare, university, and/or hospitality setting (patient-first, customer-first environment) required
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required
- Special Police Officer - DC - SPO within 180 Days required or
- MD Special Police Commission - MDSPC within 180 Days required
- Basic or Advanced Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification from IAHSS preferred
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) - Board Certified in Security Management preferred
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- Must successfully complete all MedStar initial training related to violence prevention, de-escalation and crisis prevention intervention.

- Ability to remain calm and thoughtful during a crisis.
- Ability to assist in de-escalating situations with strong emotions and conflict.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
