MedStar Health is looking for a Sterile Processing Educator to join our team at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center!

As a Sterile Processing Educator, you will coordinate, plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs designed to meet the assessed needs of MedStar Health in a continuing effort to ensure quality care and maintain current standards of practice. Fosters staff commitment to improving patient outcome. Serves as a resource/consultant/ facilitator to others in MedStar Health. Collaborates with leadership to facilitate learner's achievement of educational goals. Oversees the activities of the sterile processing department personnel regarding proper preparation, packaging, handling, decontamination, sterilization, stocking and delivery of sterile and non-sterile supplies, instrumentation, and equipment. In the absence of the Manager, assume leadership and 24-hour accountability for the activities of the department. Collaborates in monitoring financial and resource management.

Primary Duties: 

Assesses learning needs of staff and customers, analyzes the results, and disseminates findings to leadership. Assists in the maintenance and preparations of records, files, and other documents. Assists in the selection of staff. Participates in developing performance standards, evaluates performance utilizing performance tools and competency checklists, assists in performance management planning, initiates, or makes recommendations for personnel actions. 
Assists individuals, departments, and work teams in designing and facilitating educational activities. Supports growth opportunities, utilizing the Assessment and Development System. Provides expertise for program planning, implementation, and evaluation of outcomes. Conducts departmental in-services for new equipment and instruments. Arranges with vendors to provide training and demonstration on the proper cleaning, assembling and sterilization of instruments. Considers cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction when planning educational programs.  
Develops team specific orientation and preceptor program, plans and coordinates unit specific competencies for all associates, supports the implementation of new programs, helps design educational programs to ensure the highest quality care delivery and customer satisfaction. Identifies problems for evaluative or scientific investigation. Participates in research process, reviews research application, incorporates research findings into teaching and work practice and manages data. Investigates and follows through on customer complaints and incidents requiring follow up education, training, and return demonstration of the identified problem and/or processes.  
Oversees and maintains the instrument tracking system. Streamlines Sterile Processing processes and uses the tools to build accurate and complete sets to ensure instrumentation is packaged according to the count sheet details built in the database. Reviews and changes data as needed/identified by associates and customers. Maintains quality and consistency of documentation.  
Oversees proper preparation, sterilization, assembly, and proper handling and storing sterile equipment and supplies in collaboration with Risk Management, Infection Control and Operating Room. Assists associates in the proper case cart preparation, handling, and timely delivery to the Operating Room. Identifies individual staff development needs and provides appropriate resources to meet needs. Encourages Staff to attend education programs. Provides manager and associates with timely feedback on individual performance and progress. Revises educational program and tools based on data collected and feedback. 

Qualifications:  

High School Diploma or GED. 
5-7 years Surgical tech and/or sterile processing experience with sterilizers, surgical instruments, medical supplies, and preparation of various simple and complex trays for surgical procedures. 
CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) and Distribution Tech CSPDT certification.  
Associate degree in healthcare field preferred.
