MedStar Health is looking for a Radiation Therapist to join our team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital! We are looking for basic technical expertise, ability to organize, set priorities, and remain calm in extremely stressful or emergency situations. 

The Radiation Therapist will simulate and deliver a planned course of radiation therapy under the direction of a physician, provide patient care, and perform other support services. Primary Duties: 

  • Verifies and delivers physician's prescribed course of radiation therapy, immobilizes patients, utilizes beam directional devices, wedges compensating filters and customized blocks as applicable, insures the clinical, physical, and psychological needs of patients are met during treatments, reports signs of complications or other changes in status and transports patients.  

  • Documents a prescribed course of radiation therapy through accurately maintaining daily treatment records, recording patient set-up instructions, diagramming of patient's treatment fields, taking & labeling films of each treatment field of each patient as needed, and filing approved films. Performs radiation therapy equipment check for QA (Quality Assurance), detects, and reports equipment malfunctions, and does dose verifications using exposure meter and records results.  

  • Prepares patients for simulation procedure, provides explanations needed, prepares and administers (when applicable) cystogram, IVP, barium swallow, bite block molding when necessary, marks and tattoos patient's skin at the treatment site, takes measurements, records information, labels new patient film jackets and retrieves old patients returning film jackets, sets up patients appointments and documents information gathered at simulation so that calculation can be done and prepares blocks and molds used inpatient treatment.  

  • Receives calls from hospital staff, patients, and families regarding questions on treatment complications, cancellations, lateness, etc., maintains an accurate, up-to-date daily record of patients' schedules, and completes paperwork for charging patients.  

  • Instructs, supervises, checks, and evaluates all student work. Participates in staff and continuing education meetings and programs. Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology) Radiography Certification  

  • Bachelor's degree B.S. degree in Radiation Technology preferred. 

  • 1-2 years' experience as a radiation therapy technologist preferred.
