General Summary of Position
Purchases medications and medication-related devices, materials, equipment, and supplies for the pharmacy department and pharmacy ancillary areas in accordance with legal requirements, board of pharmacy and hospital guidelines for cost, quality, and delivery. Works with management to control inventory, navigate product shortages, maintain drug recall documentation and other duties related to purchasing as assigned.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Ensures that hospital standard procedures are followed in connection with purchases of materials and services.
  • Follows up with vendors to ensure that they meet required delivery dates.
  • Maintains accurate records of all controlled substance transactions.
  • Maintains files and records of current and potential suppliers, materials, prices, delivery dates, and inventories.
  • Maintains purchase order and invoice files and related pharmacy records.
  • Obtains certifications of delivery, conducts check against order, and checks and approves payment of invoices.
  • Prepares documents to process requests for equipment repairs, adjustments for damage, and incorrect shipments. Purchases materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors.
  • Prepares materials and supplies purchase orders, analyzes quotations, and expedites deliveries and shipments.
  • Researches and implements programs for minimization of inventory costs, waste reduction, and prevention of shrinkage.
  • Researches and selects products according to quality, price, and serviceability standards. Contacts vendors and hospital personnel to ensure that actions are completed.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts as required.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Courses in Business or Marketing preferred

    Experience

    • 1- 2 years Buyer experience in a hospital setting required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications in a Windows environment.
    • Verbal and written communication skills.


    This position has a hiring range of $23.19 - $40.61
