General Summary of Position
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist is accountable for leading professional development and clinical education of the multidisciplinary patient care associates and leaders within MedSTAR Transport. In conjunction with the Director of Nursing Education and Interprofessional Development, AVP Clinical Operations and Medical Director, leads education and professional development activities and programs, which foster the professional practice and ongoing development of clinical personnel. Guides and recommends development of best practices in patient care during medical transport; assists department leaders in the development of department-based initiatives in the areas of clinical care, staff development, education, and compliance with external regulatory and accreditation standards. The Professional Development Specialist oversees the assessment, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of learning and ongoing development programs to enhance associates' performance and competencies in the ground and air medical transport environment. Works shifts in the ground ambulances and helicopter as a registered nurse crew member or observer to maintain familiarity with the clinical care that is provided in the transport environment.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing from a nationally accredited program required and
- Master's degree in Nursing Education preferred
Experience
- 3-4 years Experience working in critical care/emergency medicine required and
- 1-2 years Experience in a medical transport environment, air and ground ambulance. preferred and
- Experience in nursing education or professional development preferred and
- Leadership or supervisory experience preferred and
- Prior experience working with a Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) accredited program, the District of Columbia Department of Health (DC DOH), MAryland Institute for Emergency Medical Systems (MIEMSS), and Virginia Office of Emergency MEdical Services (VAOEMS) preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Current Registered Nursing licensure in the District of Columbia and Maryland (or ability to obtain licensure). Upon Hire required and
- CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification Upon Hire required and
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification Upon Hire required and
- STABLE - RN - Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support within 180 Days required and
- CAMTS approved trauma certification within 180 Days required and
- Certified Flight Registered Nurse or Certified Transport Registered Nurse within 2 years required and
- Nsg Prof Develop Bd Cert - RN-BCNPD within 2 years required and
- FEMA ICS 100 Course 100.C within 180 Days required and
- FEMA ICS 200 Course 200.C within 180 Days required and
- NIH Stroke Scale - NIHSS within 180 Days required and
- NREMT - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) preferred and
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development or Nursing Education from a nationally recognized nursing organization preferred and
- Prior experience working with a Commission for the Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) accredited program preferred and
- Course instructor certifications desirable. preferred
- Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.

- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and able to quickly learn other software systems required for the position.

- Emotional stability to function effectively in unpredictable situations.
- Meets the physical requirements to work in the ground ambulance and helicopter either as an assigned crew member or an observer.
- Demonstrates high level of clinical competence related to acute care and emergency care settings as well as varying patient populations and age groups.
- Basic medical math skills.
