MedStar Health is looking for a Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team!

We are looking for a licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist able to effectively communicate with all customers and knowledge of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) policies on Confidentiality.

This is a skilled professional position that provides health care services, using radionuclides to assist diagnosis or treatment. As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will perform nuclear medicine procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner. Work is performed under the general direction of the Supervisor, Chief Technologist or the Director of M.I.

Primary Duties:

  • Operates and documents all aspects of Nuclear Medicine. Verifies that the patient has consented to the procedure and fully understands its risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up. Verifies that consent has been obtained. Immobilizes patients as required. Positions patient, respecting patient ability and comfort. Selects and operates imaging equipment and associated accessories. Monitors patient during procedure. Provides patient information pertinent to the exam being performed. Prepares patient for procedure. Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients. Evaluates images for technical quality, assuring proper identification and image labeling. Initiates basic life support action when necessary. Checks and orders supply as needed. Participates in data collection. 

  • Reports equipment failure/problems. Assists in training and education. Provides input for purchase of new equipment, and new hire or new employee through peer interview process. Provides patient education. Maintains knowledge of and observes universal precautions. Access, manipulate, store, and print M.I. digital images. Access archived film from film library. Applies principles of radiation safety to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. 

  • Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment. Prepares room for procedure. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and procedure table before and after each procedure. 

  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure. Identifies learning needs in self and initiates actions to address these education needs. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted time for completion. Works effectively within/ between departments. Provides department/unit with information and knowledge acquired during participation with interdepartmental teams and committees. 

  • Ensures patient safety. Prepares, identifies and administers contrast media and or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Assists licensed practitioners with nuclear medicine procedures as needed. Responsible for following all protocols to ensure optimum image quality.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Allied Health Education Nuclear Medicine program or equivalent.

  • 1-2 years' experience in a hospital setting.

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology) and/or CNMT Certification.

  • Maryland Nuclear Medicine Technologist license.

  • CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation).

  • Experience with RIS/PACS is preferred.
