General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for a Clinical Associate to join our team at MedStar Ambulatory Services! We are looking for an individual with excellent customer service and patient interaction skills.

This person will perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting and medical practice office supervised by a physician/provider. Duties may include documentation of medical history, vital signs, EKGs, event monitor hook-up, chart preparation and assisting providers with patient exams.

Position may float to other ambulatory sites/locations within the system.

Primary Duties:

·       Documents clinically related activities accurately in the patient's medical record. Provides telephone screening services to gather information. Contacts insurance companies to obtain pre-authorizations for patient medications and specialty referrals including insurance authorization. May assist with registering patients including insurance verification and collection of copays.

·       Screens all patients for potential preventative care needs, ongoing support, barriers to care, safety concerns and urgent/emergent medical conditions, and potential fall risk. May assist provider with patient preparation for the examination, minor office procedures, and education of patients. May perform lab draws, EKGs and event monitor hook-ups.

·       Participates in population management activities including an awareness of the populations they serve and engages the patient in self-management support, goal setting, pre-visit planning, and the capturing of information that leads to health care improvement activities.

·       May conduct surveillance for transitions of care, emergent care, or follow-up tasks such as retrieval of documents associated with referrals/testing. Identifies potential behavioral health needs of patients based on medical history using appropriate screening tools and notifies the provider of findings.

·       As part of a High-Reliability Organization, reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, and associates. Participates in ongoing performance improvement initiatives to increase safety. On occasion, may be tasked to ensure ongoing compliance by maintaining and auditing temperature logs, ensuring all supplies including medications are current/ unexpired, checking and maintaining emergency equipment.

 

Qualifications:

·       High School Diploma/ GED.

·       Customer service experience or prior experience in a healthcare organization.

·       Experience working with electronic medical records preferred.


This position has a hiring range of $17.5 - $28.73
