We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our MHVI: Cardiac Catheter team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. As the most comprehensive advanced heart failure program in the area, our multidisciplinary team provides regional coverage across hospitals and outpatient clinics, bringing sophisticated disease management closer to patients.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in an ICU or Cardiology setting. This position deals primarily in an in-patient setting. The work schedule will be four 10-hour shifts a week and will include some weekends and holidays.

 

  • Performs pre-procedure and preoperative evaluation including taking medical history and performing physical examination, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic testing, obtaining informed consent for procedures and providing patient education.

  • Provides comprehensive post-procedural and postoperative care utilizing protocols and assists physicians/house staff in ongoing patient management as needed.

 

  • Provides discharge planning and patient education in collaboration with appropriate physicians and multidisciplinary teams.

 

  • Maintains open communication with referring physicians by providing patient updates and recommendations for discharge planning.

 

  • Assists with various research protocols and patient recruitment for studies approved to be conducted at Georgetown University Hospital

 

  • Attends research protocol training meetings and Scientific Sessions as appropriate.

 

  • Provides patient and family education about cardiovascular/cardiology services, procedures performed, and disease management. 

 

  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities by developing evidence-based protocols and guidelines in collaboration with other members of the team; attending monthly Morbidity and Mortality Conference; and participating in other departmental meetings and conferences regularly.

 

  • Conducts treadmill/ECG portion of standard, nuclear, and echocardiographic stress tests.

 

  • Conducts pharmacologic stress tests (eg. Adenosine, Regadenoson, Dobutamine).

 

  • Provides preliminary interpretation of ECG portion of aforementioned stress tests.

 

  • Notifies appropriate physician(s) of abnormal test findings.

 

  • Participates in interpretation of cardiac nuclear imaging studies at part of the multidisciplinary team.

 

 

  • Participates on the inpatient Cardiology Consultation Service, performing patient evaluations and assisting with care coordination with multi-disciplinary teams.

 

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.  The above are a general description of the level and nature of the work assigned to this position and are not to be considered all inclusive.

 

A normal  weekly working schedule will be 4, 10-hour shifts providing patient care from 8:00am to 6:00pm however may be changed as business needs indicate.
