MedStar Health is looking for a Business Director of Perioperative Services to join our team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center!

Reporting to the Vice President of Perioperative Services, the Business Director of Perioperative Services will provide direction of financial operations and supportive personnel. Position supports senior management, physician leadership, nursing leadership, and others to advance the strategic and operational interests of MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Primary Duties: 

  • Plans, organizes, directs, develops, implements, and manages business operations that oversee all fiscal activities related to Perioperative Services. Responsible for strategy and implementation of operational budgets, capital review, asset management, revenue planning and overall performance. Directs and oversees report development, interpretation, and recommendations for financial improvement strategies. Evaluates block utilization with recommendations for improvement. Collaborates with surgeons and clinic offices to maximize the use of block assignments and consults on scheduling practices. Serves as administrative liaison to Perioperative Governance Committee Block Subcommittee. 

  • Responsible for fiscal planning and targets. Monitors volumes, collections, income, and expenses. Reviews and analyzes internal/external financial trends. Recommends action to enhance revenue, improve operations, and outcomes. Responsible for financial and operational analysis including productivity, financial and best practices. Directs the financial performance of Perioperative Services including interpreting and monitoring the annual supply budgets, including identification of cost-effective alternatives, product evaluation, product standardization, and contractual agreements. Collaborates with System Supply Chain, local Perioperative Leaders, physicians, and vendors on Value Analysis Committee requests. 

  • Coordinates contract negotiations and represents MedStar Washington Hospital Center in external surgical management related organizations and functions. Directs and manages leaders and staff on surgical billing, surgical auditing, surgical posting, and analysis, including interviewing and hiring, supervising, orienting, training, scheduling, coaching, counseling, evaluating, promoting, and terminating employees. Ensures surgical posting process is efficient, accurate and user-friendly. Responsible for developing surgeon relations through patient scheduling, block scheduling, and accurate management and information system support. 

  • Provides efficient and accurate facility and professional billing operations in accordance with MedStar Washington's financial services and various payor compliance requirements. Works with Finance to maintain charge description master and ensures quarterly updates are completed in compliance with regulatory requirements. Collaborates with physician, nursing, administration, IT leadership and others to ensure IT systems are being used optimally to enhance integration of operations and patient care services. Promotes a culture of safety and advances quality. Ensures compliance with quality and safety initiatives across departments. Interacts with clinical and administrative staff to facilitate compliance with quality and safety initiatives. Works with providers to ensure seamless coordination of care. Directly supports Perioperative Ethos, Promise and other cultural engagement projects. Provides recommendations for improving provider performance, specifically with quality, safety, patient experience, documentation, and other compliance measures. Ensures ongoing compliance with accreditation standards. 

  • Maintains appropriate communications between various functional units. Interacts with Patient Accounts, Admitting, Bill Auditing, Information Systems, Medical Records, and Clinical Supply departments in resolving and processing surgical billing accounts. Ensures responsive patient services and relations. Directs, collaborates, and acts as a liaison with others to organize, initiate, and coordinate performance improvement activities. Prepares and/or directs preparation of administrative policies and procedures. Maintains current knowledge of technical and business developments and communicates relevant information to the work group. Participates in departmental and hospital committees as appointed. 

 

Qualifications:  

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration or related discipline. 

  • 3-4 years of progressively more responsible experience in hospital administration, billing, or management.
