General Summary of Position

MedStar Health is looking for an Assistant Chief Physicist to join our team at MedStar Franklin Square Hospiteal! We are looking for technical competency with delivery of Image Guided Radiation Therapy, strong leadership, and managerial skills. 

As an Assistant Chief Physicist, you will provide patient care services and oversight of part of the Medical Physicist staff. This medical physicist provides team supervision and co-ordination in addition to supporting the organization's clinical and research activities.

Primary Duties: 

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations. Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.  

  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information. Provides direct training of physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, and other allied health care professionals on clinical radiation physics and dosimetry, radiation safety, and use of equipment. 

  • Provides patient treatment support services that ensure prescribed dose(s) of ionizing radiation are delivered accurately and safely for each in-patient or outpatient. This includes calibration of sources of ionizing radiation, calibration of devices used to assist treatment delivery, calculations of dose and/or dose distributions, and calculations of treatment time. Provides support and training for clinical equipment and related software systems. Provides special patient measurements and calculations as requested by the attending physician for patient care.  

  • Supervises, coordinates, and verifies the work of dosimetrists and clinical physicists in the physics team. Provides ongoing quality assurance of related equipment and software systems. Assists in supervision and job descriptions of related physicists and dosimetrists. Assist in the specifications and selection of related clinical equipment and computer systems.  

  • Assists in development and implementation of policy and rules for safe use of equipment by the staff, including procedures to ensure compliance with USNRC, State regulations for ionizing radiation, JCAHO, and other professional standards as approved for departmental implementation. Assist with the periodic review of quality assurance and regulatory compliance. Supports the scholarly activity of the department through contributions to medical literature and the analysis of clinical outcomes. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in medical physics. 

  • 3 years' experience with PhD or 7 years' experience with Masters. 

  • Medical Physics Certification - MPC 

This position has a hiring range of $157,996 - $318,968
