With a 72-bed pediatric critical care unit, one of the nation's largest, Children's has 30 critical care specialists, 16 critical care-trained nurse practitioners and a highly trained intensive care unit team who treat children with serious medical or surgical care needs.

Position Description:

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support the Pediatric Critical Care services located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Children's Wisconsin.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

In this role you will:

Patient Care:

Examine, treat, and document acute and chronic care of children with complex and critical health conditions in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Order, interpret, and record results of clinical tests and report results to physician team. Prescribe medications and make recommendations for other therapeutic treatments.

  • Collaborate with a physician or physician team to assess and treat the acute and chronic health care needs of complex and critically ill or injured children.
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • A wide degree of creativity and autonomy is expected.

Teaching/Education:

  • Instruction (formal and/or informal) of nurses and nursing students, medical students, residents, parents and other health care professionals.

Quality improvement and Research:

  • Support section research activities and quality improvement initiatives through participation

Anticipated Schedule: Flexibility with scheduling to support 24/7 coverage - will include night/weekend coverage on a rotational basis *generous supplemental pay provided
