About the role

Software Engineers at Mastercard design and code a variety of applications covering transaction processing, analytics, user interfaces, and APIs using a blend of cutting-edge technologies across big data, distributed systems, machine learning, and more. As a Software Engineer, you will deliver these products and solutions with speed and agility as part of a small team. This will involve developing high-performing, highly scalable software solutions and products for some of the world's top brands. Specific tasks vary depending on the project and the business unit that you join in.

As a Software Engineer I at Mastercard, you are expected to perform the following general responsibilities:

· Deliver assigned work seeking guidance from experienced team members

· Proactively seek reviews of their work from experienced team members

· Seeks understanding of how their tasks fits into the bigger picture and end-to-end logical architecture owned by their team

· Ask questions, providing feedback and suggestions on areas to improve

· Learn and understand the use of Mastercard technology policies in everyday work

It is expected a candidate should have experience across multiple areas listed below.

· Has experience with programming in at least one language such as C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, etc. Familiarity using persistent data stores such as relational databases, NoSQL, etc. Uses defensive coding, logging, and alerts to help prevent issues.

· Shows ability to prioritize personal tasks and workstreams. Engaged in planning and scoping assigned features. Partners with others to ensure the right tradeoffs in decisions.

· Able to share technical ideas in both written and spoken forums. A proactive communicator that keeps their team members informed of project status and blockers.

· Writes automated tests to verify code correctness and expected behavior.

· Shows persistence on intermittent or hard to reproduce issues. Familiar with common debugging tools and information to diagnose issues such as stack traces, memory profiling, code tracing, etc., using all debugging techniques/ tools and logs.

· Participates in teammates' code and design reviews. Uses these as opportunities to further understanding of team's applications and features.

· Exposure to source control management (e.g., git), deployment, and task management tools.

· A self-starter with the ability to solve problems independently. Approaches discussions & problems collaboratively and with a sense of curiosity. Works with team members in other roles and geographies as needed

· Seeks understanding of the business need behind their development tasks.
