Staff Accountant/ Full Charge Bookkeeper  - Insurance Industry Experience Required 

Company Overview

Kelly Services is partnering with a rapidly growing property and casualty (“P&C”) brokerage firm in the insurance industry.

We are currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join our high-growth, fast-paced company. This position will report to the Accounting Manager and play a key role in onboarding and supporting acquired agencies with agency management system (“AMS”) and accounting responsibilities. This role is responsible to assist with all elements of the accounting function, including production report and accounting reconciliation, general ledger accounting, month-end close and reconciliation of banking transactions.

Position Title: Staff Accountant/ Full Charge Bookkeeper
Reporting To: Accounting Manager
Location: Downtown Chicago 60601 (100% onsite)
Job Type: Full-time, contract to hire
Pay: $50,000.00 - $64,000.00 per year


Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle all accounting responsibilities (AP, AR, Journal Entries, month end and financial reporting for assigned accounts)
  • Process, record, and reconcile deposits received .
  • Track overdue client accounts and follow up with clients.
  • Reconcile direct bill commission statements.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Enter and process vendor invoices including receiving W-9's.
  • Draft and send invoices to agency customers.
  • Reconcile accounts as needed.
  • Enter journal entries.
  • Track expenses and update spreadsheets.
  • Review and process expense reports.
  • Handle audit requests.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports including variance analysis.
  • Assist in the creation of ad hoc financial analyses for agency partners.

Required Criteria
  • Bachelors degree and 1+ years' experience working with small to mid-size multi-location companies or 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Insurance industry experience required
  • Experience reconciling carrier commission statements preferred
  • Proficiency in Applied EPIC and/or AMS360 or similar insurance industry csr and accounting system (hawksoft csr 360 etc)
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including advanced skills), Word, Outlook and preferably Power Point.
  • Must be able to multi-task and meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced/high-growth environment.
  • Local to the greater Chicago area.

Preferred Criteria
CPA or CMA
Private equity experience
