Senior Consumables NPD Engineer (Contract to Hire) – $50-$75/hr

Kelly Engineering, a leading staffing agency, is partnering with a premier medical device company to find a highly skilled Senior Consumables NPD Engineer. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity where you'll play a critical role in the development and production of cutting-edge medical consumables.

About the Role: Our client is at the forefront of medical device innovation, committed to transforming product requirements into sustainable, large-scale consumables production. As the Senior Consumables NPD Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in mechanical design, materials, automation, and injection molding to create custom solutions, refine existing designs, and enable large-scale manufacturing of shelf-stable consumables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, execution, and analysis of engineering studies involving mechanical systems, automation equipment, plastic consumables, and packaging.
  • Prepare, iterate, and modify designs, testing plans, material selection, and prototype fabrication to conduct feasibility studies.
  • Drive New Product Development (NPD) efforts, transitioning consumable parts from concept to large-scale manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine part specifications, support Design for Manufacturing (DfM), and achieve cost reduction.
  • Write verification and validation protocols and technical reports to ensure seamless transfer of designs into production, adhering to FDA and ISO guidelines.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors and in-house teams to enhance part attributes and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality parts.
  • Conduct Failure Investigation (FI) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to optimize consumables part performance.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience, with 5-7 years of related work experience.
  • Solid knowledge of FMEA, SPC, DOE, and experience in failure investigation (FI) and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Expertise in injection molding principles, rapid prototyping, plastic injection molding, part design, and high-volume manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software such as MATLAB, R, Minitab, or Excel.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks and Engineering Drawing.
  • Experience in Project Management fundamentals and Quality Management Systems (Design Controls experience is a plus).
  • Experience with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and integration of instrument, consumables, reagents, and software components.
