Medical Laboratory Scientist - Hematology & Microbiology
Location: Pendleton, OR
Job Type: Full-Time Direct Hire
Salary: $37 - $41 per hour (Based on Experience)
Work Schedule:
- Hematology Lead: Tuesday – Saturday 5 AM – 2 PM
- Microbiology: Friday-Monday, 8:00 pm to 6:30 am
Overview:
We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join the Hematology and Microbiology teams in Pendleton, Oregon. This role offers an exciting opportunity for candidates with 5-10 years of experience in microbiology or hematology, including expertise in automated systems and microbiological testing. Responsibilities
Hematology Lead (25% Administrative, 75% Bench Work)
- Automated Systems: Operate and maintain Beckman DXH and Celevision automated systems for hematology testing.
- Coagulation Analysis: Perform Stago coagulation testing and interpret results to provide accurate patient diagnostics.
- Workflow Management: Lead procedure and workflow management for the hematology department.
- Training & Support: Provide guidance to junior staff and support lab staff with troubleshooting and technical assistance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the laboratory team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of hematology results.
Microbiology Role
- Plate Reading & Gram Stains: Perform plate reading and gram staining for bacterial identification.
- Biochemical Testing: Conduct biochemical testing for microorganism identification.
- Automated Plate Reading: Utilize automated systems (such as Vitek or Vitek MS) for antibiotic susceptibility testing.
- Ova & Parasite Identification: Analyze ova and parasites under the microscope.
- Fungal Identification: Read fungus plates and conduct relevant tests for identification.
- Collaboration & Support: Work with a team to ensure efficient and accurate microbiology testing.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5-10 years of experience in microbiology or hematology with skills in automated systems, plate reading, and bacterial identification.
- Certification: ASCP certification preferred. Candidates with a bachelor's degree and extensive experience in microbiology or hematology may be considered.
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in automated plate reading systems and antibiotic susceptibility testing using Vitek systems.
- Knowledge of gram staining, biochemical testing, and fungus plate reading.
- Experience with Beckman DXH, Celevision, and Stago coagulation analyzers (for Hematology Lead role).
Additional Information
- Flexibility on Schedule: While the microbiology role has a rotating schedule, flexibility is preferred to ensure coverage and team effectiveness.
