Automation Technician
Detroit, MI
Contract-to-hire
$35-$40/hr

Kelly Engineering has an exciting opportunity for a skilled Automation Technician to work with a one-of-a-kind, fully automated manufacturing company with brand new technology. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical and control panel wiring, as well as a comprehensive understanding of smart conveyor systems and mechatronics. This role involves hands-on work with industrial machines, troubleshooting, and collaborating with a small, dedicated team to build a large conveyor system equipped with advanced automation process!

Key Responsibilities

  • Wire and assemble control panels for an Ethernet-based Device Net conveyor system.
  • Understand and troubleshoot software and logic programming for conveyor systems.
  • Manage the communication between control cars within the conveyor system.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain various industrial machines, including ovens, automated cutters, and shipping machines.
  • Troubleshoot and program PLCs, with a focus on Allen Bradley controls
  • Work with Yaskawa 7-axis robots for material handling

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical and control panel wiring for industrial applications.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining industrial machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand software and logic programming for conveyor systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming and reprogramming, particularly in mechatronics.
  • Familiarity with Ethernet-based Device Net systems
  • Knowledge of robotics, specifically 7-axis material handling using Yaskawa.
  • Controls understanding, especially with Allen Bradley systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small, skilled team.
  • Preferred Skills
  • Degree is not important; practical, hands-on experience is highly valued.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage small projects, particularly in the context of conveyor systems.
