Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus is currently looking for a Driver Aide to help with transporting students on campus for medical related reasons.  Driving off campus may be required on occasion.

This is a temporary position for the remainder of the school year.  This position does not work during school breaks or holidays.  Work hours are Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Occasional 6:30 AM start maybe required.

Our ideal candidate must :

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have had a valid Drivers license for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Have an acceptable Traffic Abstract.
  • Be able to drive an ADA accessible vehicle and 10-passenger van.
  • Be willing to attend driver training & CPR/1st Aid Certification.

Hourly rate for this position is $20/hr.

Job Summary

Transports students for a variety of medically related reasons from different school campuses/sites to Hale Ola, shuttle injured students between classes as necessary, transport students to off-campus medical facilities to include medical and dental appointments, injuries and illnesses, etc.  Performs pickup and delivery of confidential medical reports to medical facilities, medical supplies, picks up and delivers lunches from dining hall to Hale Ola and Unit Offices for students under medical care. Works in collaboration with the administrative coordinator on inventory control, purchasing supplies, maintaining accurate health records, web page maintenance, and reconcile p-card transactions and purchases.  Assists with office duties to include filing charts, updating mailing addresses, collating medical forms.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides transportation for students on campus and off campus for medical reasons. This includes students with scheduled off campus appointments; and those who may need to be evaluated at  outside urgent care medical facilities, laboratories, etc. Transports students Ola for evaluation and treatment by campus medical staff. Transports students injured or ill students between classes as required. May transport injured or ill boarding students to the dormitories for personal and school supplies when admitted or to the airport as necessary. Transports medical staff to emergencies on campus.
  • Works in collaboration with the administrative coordinator on inventory control, purchasing supplies, maintaining accurate health records, web page maintenance, and reconcile p-card transactions and purchases.  Assists with office duties such as answering phones, filing charts, updating mailing addresses. Assists with collating and mass mailing of student medical forms, prepping charts for new students, closing out records, filing of student medical forms.  Assists with office duties such as answering phones, filing charts, updating mailing addresses, etc. as time permits.   • Pickup and deliver lunches for those students admitted to campus medical facilities or for students who cannot have their meals at the dining halls for medical / disciplinary reasons.  Assists with prepping meal trays as time permits. Performs laundry services as time permits.  Performs daily maintenance of assigned vans to ensure the safe vehicle operation when transporting students and staff, reports mechanical problems to Transportation, maintains exterior and interior cleanliness.  Pickup and delivery of confidential medical reports; pickup student prescriptions from Longs/Kaiser/etc.; medical supplies.

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months experience in a directly related capacity.
  • Valid Driver's License and safe driving record.
  • Have First Aid and CPR Certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Ability to relate well to students of all ages and maintain discipline while transporting them.
  • Ability to maintain calm attitude in emergency situation. 
  • Knowledge of  the streets and highways of the city of Honolulu and the location of hospitals and physician office buildings and major medical facilities
  • Ability to physically assist injured or ill students grades K – 12. 
  • Ability to drive a 9-passenger and handivan.
  • Able to work flexible hours if necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with school children.
  • Extensive knowledge of the city streets and locations.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, perform desk based computer tasks and grasp light/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand, and lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach/work about shoulder, grasp forcefully.

Working Conditions

  • This position may involve traveling to various locations, including neighbor islands to conduct business.
  • Work is conducted in an office/school environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
