Are you looking to put your Ventilation and Filtration and AST coursework to use in a real-world setting? Consider a paid, full-time internship with Iowa Select Farms this summer! In this role, students will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the industry's most creative thinkers and innovative problem solvers.
Students will spend their summer on a team committed to a highly collaborative installation and research project on positive pressure filtration, an innovative technology Iowa Select Farms has implemented to prevent the spread of viruses into sow farms. Positive pressure filtration pulls air into the facility through special dormers lining the side of each barn, through filter banks, up into the attic then down into the barns through ceiling inlets. Students will gain practical experience with electricity, control systems and ventilation systems working with one of the US's largest pork producers.
INTERNSHIP DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Troubleshoot and repair issues with the ventilation system to gain an understanding of how the system functions to prevent disease entry and provide the ideal environment for the pigs
- Completing barn audits for quality assurance
- Programming and monitoring ventilation controllers
- Developing troubleshooting manuals and SOPs for farm managers
- Project and crew management/leadership
- Analyzing and interpreting data
- Assisting in project design, planning and implementation
- Identifying improvements that can be made to the ventilation and filtration system and implement company wide
LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (SUMMER INTERNS ONLY):
Throughout a summer internship with Iowa Select Farms, interns will have the opportunity for leadership and professional development opportunities including but not limited to:
- Leadership Panels
- “Ride-alongs” to explore other areas of company
- Participation in Iowa Select Farms “PeopleCare Leadership Program”
- Opportunity to engage and network with all employment tiers through company summer events
OTHER DETAILS:
- Paid internship: $14/hour
- Housing provided and included in internship @ Ellsworth Community College
- Internship duration: late May – early August 2025
- Two-year community college or four-year university students are eligible
- Potential college credit – Iowa Select Farms will work to accommodate collegiate internship requirements
- All interns must interview for the position and complete a background check and Predictive Index Assessment
