PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

As a Human Resource Specialist for Iowa Select Farms, you will be involved in executing various processes, programs and policies within the Human Resource department.  This role includes interviewing and hiring candidates, assisting and answering employee questions, providing orientation for new employees, providing resources and guidance for managers and supervisors, and maintaining documents and records.  This role works with and through others building and maintaining relationships and working closely and accurately within established guidelines.   

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process incoming online and paper applications 
  • Prescreen new applicants
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified applicants for open positions; collaborates with mangers and supervisors to understand skills and competencies and as needed throughout the hiring process
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications 
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs; completes new hire paperwork and coordination of start dates and locations 
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information and records, both verbal and written
  • Establish, maintain, file and audit electronic and/or paper personnel, documentation & investigation files
  • Develop, maintain and update necessary SOPs, competencies, manuals, company documents and PowerPoints
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance and updates
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law
  • Ensure consistent processes and procedures are followed to maintain compliance and consistency regarding topics including but not limited to disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity; attendance; recognition and morale; training and development
  • Handles applicant, employee and manager employment-related inquiries, questions and concerns through phone conversations, site visits and collaboration with other supervisors or departments as needed; refers complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate people
  • Assist and lead training and developmental programs – HR training days, PeopleCare Leadership Programs, Safety, Production Wellbeing, performance processes and others as we see fit 
  • Serve as a backup at the front desk with receptionist duties for PTO and lunch rotation coverage
  • Attend company events and meetings and assist facilitation as needed
  • Attend routine team meetings to participating in updates, discussion and assist in developing department goals
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems including but not limited to ADP WorkforceNow, eI9 and eVerify.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

  • Adhere to Iowa Select Farms bio-security policy at all times which includes reporting any violations or concerns to management team
  • Compliance with Iowa Select Farms safety policies and procedures which includes continuous education to maintain a safe work environment 
  • Follow Iowa Select Farms animal wellbeing policy at all times and partner with the Production Well-being team in a timely manner if an incident occurs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities for this position.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is performed indoors routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional visits to farm sites following all biosecurity protocols

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk, hear.  
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks
  • Ability to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.    
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include reading, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.  
  • The employee must have the ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position with the expected days of Monday-Friday
  • Additional availability may be required during business or workload challenges and disruptions

 

TRAVEL

  • Travel may be on occasion for work related visits and/or meetings with the utilization of a company vehicle 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree in in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field or at least three years of equivalent Human Resources experience
  • Bilingual in verbal and written English & Spanish is preferred
