TITLE: Genetic Transfer Center Transport

PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • Transport semen from the boar stud to the production farms following stringent bio-security regulations to insure disease is not spread throughout the company or brough back to the boar studs.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Pre- Delivery 

  • The delivery vehicle will be thoroughly washed the evening before going to the boar stud. This is without exception. 
  • The boar stud will be the first stop of the day.
  • The delivery person will back into the garage area to pick up the semen orders.
    1. The garage area is considered dirty. Stud personal will only enter the garage if overnight down time is observed before re-entering the stud. 
    2. The deliver person will clean and disinfect this area after every pick up. 
  • Stud personal will package all orders. Semen will be labeled with farm destinations.
  • Seman will be handled through the pass- through window to the delivery person. 
    1. Delivery person will transfer semen to transport cooler immediately in the delivery truck. 
    2. The inside temperature of the transfer cooler needs to be at a safe temperature to insure no damage to the semen (60-65). Be sure inside of delivery coolers are also at that temperature range. 
    3. Do not haul anything other than what is picked up from the boar stud. Anything hauled in the delivery vehicle must be cleared with staff veterinarian or supervisor. 

Deliveries 

  • Once the delivery person leaves the garage area, they will not be allowed back to the boar stud until the next day. 
  • Delivery person will have a designated route daily. This route may change periodically.
  • Cooler temperature will be monitored in route. 
  • As driver exits the vehicle, sit sideways in the seat and slip on plastic booties. You feet must not touch the ground without booties. 
  • When returning to the vehicle, get in sitting sideways with feet outside of vehicle and remove booties turning them inside out. Booties that were worn for the delivery into the farm cannot touch your floor mat. Place used booties into garbage bag and use hand sanitizer to clean hands. 
  • Delivery person will monitor and record high low temperatures of farms drop off cooler. Make sure to reset the highs/ lows daily by holding down the reset button for 3 seconds. If temperatures at the drop off cooler are not a safe storage temperature (55-70 Fahrenheit), the delivery person will call the farm manager and the semen will be passed through the window to the farm manager. The farm manager will place semen into the farm semen cooler. Any problems with the semen cooler will be communicated to the supervisor as soon as possible.
  • The cooler used for semen delivery will not leave the delivery vehicle. The semen bags will be removed from the delivery vehicle and carried quickly to the farms cooler. 
  • The semen bags must be placed directly into the delivery cooler without ever touching the ground or having contact with any other surface on the dirty side.
  • If farm staff wants the semen handed through, the driver will open first bag. Farm staff will reach in and remove the inside bag without touching driver or outside bag. 
  • After deliveries have been completed to all farms, the delivery vehicle will be washed with overnight down time before arriving back to boar stud. Delivery vehicle needs to be filled with gas at the end of the day after all deliveries have been made. 
    1. Vehicle will be washed at a local car wash. 
    2. Wheel wells and inside of driver door must be washed thoroughly.
    3. Floor mats must be cleaned and disinfected. 
    4. Delivery coolers will be removed, power washed and disinfected as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is performed indoors.
  • The environment of this position will change daily pending weekly schedule.
  • This position may require some tasks to be performed in extreme outside weather conditions.

 

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.          
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks.

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a part time position.
  • Part time hours cannot exceed an average of 30 hours per week over the year's timeframe. 
  • The scheduling and hours of a part-time employee are determined based off employee availability along with farm/department needs. 
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing challenges. 
  • Weekend and holiday rotations are a requirement.
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as the job duties demand. 

 

TRAVEL

  • Local travel will be required for this position through the utilization of a company vehicle. 

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bilingual not required 
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.
