Description
1. GENERAL DESCRIPTION of RESPONSIBILITY
1.1 Through delegation from the Laboratory Manager, and in a safe, legal, and ethical manner, the Laboratory Supervisor oversees the routine analysis, testing, and other handling of samples, thus insuring the accurate and timely collection and reporting of information to clients.
2. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1. To communicate, monitor, and enforce laboratory safety and housekeeping practices.
2.2 To organize and prioritize the laboratory work.
2.3 To assist in, or conduct, investigations of discrepancies to resolve problems with clients, and to inform Management of required corrective action.
2.4 To maintain communication with clients and Management regarding status of samples.
2.5 To communicate with Management regarding routine needs of the Laboratory.
2.6 To oversee the activities of shipping, receiving, sample retention, and sample disposal.
2.7 To provide objective input into Technicians' performance reviews.
2.8 To assist in the training efforts of the Company.
2.9 To maintain an awareness of the abilities and personality of each technician.
2.10 To carry out the above responsibilities, and others which may be assigned, in a safe and ethical manner, and in a fashion which demonstrates support for the Company's Quality Policy, Business Ethics Policy, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgement, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.
3. SUPERVISION EXERCISED
3.1 Through delegation, the Laboratory Supervisor carries the functional authority of the Laboratory Manager in regard to supervision of Technicians in the routine, day to day operation of the Laboratory.
4. SUPERVISION RECEIVED
4.1 Reports administratively and functionally to the Laboratory Manager, and functionally to the Area Laboratory Manager. Works cooperatively with all Local, Area, and Regional departments in the provision of routine laboratory services.
5. QUALIFICATIONS
5.1 The Laboratory Supervisor is expected to be competent in the routine operation of a petroleum testing laboratory, to have at least 1 year of practical laboratory experience, and to have at least a high school education.
5.2 The Laboratory Supervisor must be physically able to do the work required.
5.3 The Laboratory Supervisor should have a positive attitude, a high tolerance for job pressure and long hours, and the ability for working and communicating with persons of diverse personalities and backgrounds.
5.4 Be a member of Order of Chemists of Quebec.
