Description

The Staff Accountant will report to the Sr. Manager Accounting.  This individual will be a primary contributor to the month end close, have responsibilities pertaining to key areas of the general ledger and optimization of business processes.  Finally, the candidate will have ownership over various business process projects designed to implement best practices throughout the accounting organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger
  • Provide account analysis and prepare month end balance sheet reconciliations for designated accounts
  • Participate in organizational cross training and develop a high level of proficiency in both your areas of responsibility and those of your colleagues
  • Monitor activities within designated p/l and b/s accounts to ensure accuracy and proper classification of expenses
  • Follow-up on inquiries made pertaining to the general ledger from both the accounting and finance organization
  • Prepare necessary schedules for the year-end financial statement audit
  • Provide high quality deliverables while meeting tight deadlines
  • Participate in instituting best accounting practices within the accounting organization
  • Actively participate in the various system implementations that are taking place throughout the organization
  • Ability to understand and document business and retail processes ensuring appropriate controls and adhere to best practices
  • Test financials and internal controls for the organization
  • Additional duties as assigned by manager
  • Engage in frequent face to face, video, and telephonic communication
  • Regular attendance to work schedule and meetings is required

Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance is strongly desired.  CPA preferred or in progress
Skills (Required)
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, accounting principles, internal controls and financial reporting is preferred but not required
  • Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Visio
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Oracle financial systems is desirable
  • Excellent project management, organization and planning skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as to facilitate a healthy, cooperative environment both within the team and with other members of the organization
  • Integrity and ethics that are beyond reproach
Experience (Required)​​​​​​​
  • 2-4 years of experience in accounting and/or financial reporting
