27 bed medical and surgical combined. General surgery and orthopedics, CHF, diabetes, general illness, sepsis
27 beds on the floor
5 patient assignment
Self scheduling model for the most part, every other weekend, schedule is 4 weeks

Required Certs: BLS, ACLS (AHA only)
Required to be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of NC
Required Skills: IV Start

Orientation for travelers is typically 3 shifts: first shift is more house-wide and general hospital, then 2 shifts of working with a nurse on the unit

Common patient populations/illnesses: General surgery and orthopedics, CHF, diabetes, general illness, sepsis
Patient to nurse ratio: Usually 5 patient assignment
Are there CNAs/techs on the floor? Usually staff with 3 aids and a unit secretary
What to expect during orientation/how long usually? Orientation for travelers is typically 3 shifts
What does your unit's scheduling look like? Self scheduling model for the most part, every other weekend, schedule is 4 weeks
What is your charting system? Meditech
How often do travelers float and to what units? Boosting up staffing for overflow unit. We have a float rotation and try to float by turn.
