Description

The Application Support Engineer provides technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for software applications, ensuring high performance, stability, and scalability. This role requires in-depth technical skills, particularly in database management, data optimization, and system support. The ideal candidate should be skilled in SQL and familiar with cloud-based databases, while also possessing strong analytical and communication skills to resolve issues effectively and collaborate across teams.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Support & Troubleshooting
    • Serve as the primary contact for end-users experiencing application issues, ensuring prompt issue resolution and effective escalation.
    • Diagnose, analyze, and troubleshoot complex application and database issues, collaborating with development, network, and systems teams as necessary.
    • Monitor application performance, track issues, and proactively identify areas for improvement.
  2. Database Management & Optimization
    • Develop a deep understanding of database structure principles, system requirements, and data management practices.
    • Manage database tasks such as permissions, recovery, security, migration, scaling, performance tuning, optimization, and monitoring.
    • Write and optimize SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL, Stored Procedures, Views, and Triggers to support data needs and application efficiency.
    • Work with a variety of database technologies, including MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle, NoSQL, and Hadoop.
  3. Application Maintenance & Data Backup
    • Design, develop, and implement data backup, archival procedures, and disaster recovery strategies.
    • Manage AWS database services such as AWS Aurora, DynamoDB, DMS, and Redshift.
    • Perform maintenance tasks, including patch management, software updates, and configuration changes for sustained performance.
  4. ETL & Data Integration
    • Develop and manage ETL processes, utilizing tools such as Talend, Informatica, and Snowflake to support data flows and reporting requirements.
    • Assist in data migration, scaling, and integration to meet evolving business requirements.
  5. Collaboration & Documentation
    • Collaborate with software development teams to understand application functionalities, perform QA and UAT testing, and address potential issues proactively.
    • Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
    • Demonstrate flexibility in coordinating with staff across multiple time zones as required
    • Communicate effectively with end-users, customers and stakeholders, providing clear updates on issue resolution and training as needed.


Qualifications

Master's degree in computer science or related field.
Experience working with additional database technologies such as NoSQL and Hadoop.
Advanced skills in data integration, migration, and scalability within complex environments.
Prior experience in supporting large-scale, high-availability applications in a cloud-based environment.
Knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM) frameworks, such as ITIL, for managing support processes.
Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell scripting) for automating tasks and enhancing database functionality.
Proven ability to create and maintain technical documentation and user guides.
Previous experience in a cross-functional role involving collaboration with software development, QA, and network teams.
 

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience and 2+ years of experience in application support, software troubleshooting, and database management.
  • Proficiency in SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL), with experience writing and optimizing stored procedures, views, and triggers.
  • Hands-on experience with relational database systems (MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle) and familiarity with cloud-based databases, particularly on AWS (Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift).
  • Strong understanding of database structure principles, performance tuning, and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes, such as Talend, Informatica, and Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery protocols, including AWS database services and data management solutions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
  • Strong communication skills for effectively collaborating across teams and interacting with end-users and customers
