Instructional Designers are responsible for research, design and development activities leading to the initiation of instructor-led, web-based, eLearning, one-on-one and self-managed learning solution projects. Plan, write and design training curricula, materials and programs including, but not limited to, functional technical skills, leadership development, and new initiatives. Partner with all levels in the Talent Development Department and business partners to obtain input and to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of training materials.
Job Details:- Assessment and Business Partnerships:
- Conduct needs analysis to determine training objectives, instructional strategies, project scope, time frames, resources requirements and potential constraints for training programs.
- Coordinate with costing, budgeting and funding leader to identify feasibility of various solution alternatives.
- Design:
- Develop and maintain partnerships with key business partners and subject matter experts to ensure accurate content is included in the training and the expected deliverables.
- Design templates and backgrounds for media and materials.
- Develop:
- Develop training programs that are appropriate for targeted audiences and incorporates varied instructional design and delivery techniques.
- Write audio scripts, on-screen copy, digital media descriptions and programming specification including program storyboards for all eLearning solutions.
- Produce learning materials, including facilitator guides, participant workbooks and related materials such as presentations, classroom activities, program evaluation tools and job aids that clearly communicate relevant information to both the participant and the facilitator.
- Research and write/revise communications relating to policy and procedure; partnering with legal and other SMEs to ensure alignment with current business practice.
- Plan and Implement:
- Maintain a current project plan while providing ongoing statuses to immediate supervisor and business partners.
- Coordinate the production and distribution of materials to trainers and other business partners.
- Evaluate:
- Identify and develop appropriate performance measures, including but not limited to, criterion-referenced achievement tests, questionnaires, interviews, simulation scenarios, observation checklists, and performance checklists.
- Conduct usability test and pilots to assess training effectiveness.
- Tracks and analyzes training programs by examining learner's satisfaction levels.
- Stay abreast of latest retail industry trends, instructional strategies and content development techniques, tools and vendors.
- Facilitation:
- May occasionally implement and deliver training.
- Ability to ask appropriate questions and probe for understanding and work in collaboration with others to achieve desired results
- Ability to communicate through verbal and written means with individuals, small groups and in front of large audiences at all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of and proven ability to apply adult learning principles
- Proficient knowledge of recognized desktop publishing applications including layout and design (e.g. Quark, Publisher, In-Design, Photoshop, Illustrator); ability to use Microsoft Office applications
- Skilled in the use of recognized web-authoring applications (e.g. Flash, Camtasia, Adobe Presenter, Articulate Storyline, Adobe Premier, Captivate, Lectora)
- Ability to produce learning materials
- Knowledgeable and functional in technical writing, including consistent and correct use of tense, grammar/spelling and terminology that is interesting and varied
- Strong proofreading skills to produce error-free documents
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent project management, organization skills and time management skills; ability to be flexible and solve problems
- Ability to deal effectively with obstacles to progress in order to maintain project momentum
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Instructional Design, Organizational Development or business required. Three to four years experience creating instructional materials for an adult audience required. Retail experience preferred. Experience with the production of web- based training and media design principles required. Training/facilitation experience preferred. Knowledge and experience with working on project teams preferred.
