**What You Will Do**

VP Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) position has the authority, responsibility and accountability for the overall leadership, direction and management of major nursing and hospital departments and functions. Provides leadership, direction, and management for assigned areas of responsibility in the fulfillment of the mission, values and philosophy of Sharp HealthCare.

Ensures quality improvement, staff empowerment, customer satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, and market competitiveness of programs/services under direction. This position is subject to broad policy and general executive guidance, within an overall strategic framework.

**Required Qualifications**

Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)

Master's degree in relevant field.

8 years of management experience.

7 years of executive level experience.

California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED

**Preferred Qualifications**

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) **or** Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Experience in large, complex health care systems/organizations and an excellent understanding of financial management.

**Essential Functions**

**QUALITY**

Translate strategic initiatives into actions to meet or exceed objectives, including increased profitability.

Ensures the continuous and timely availability of nursing services and staff to care for patients.

Ensures that nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice are consistent with current nursing research findings and nationally recognized professional standards.

Implements the findings of current research and evidence based practice from nursing and other literature into the policies and procedures governing the provision of nursing care.

Insures quality and economic performance of assigned areas of responsibility to support or provide quality health care services.

Develops and recommends overall organizational policies and objectives within functional area, and ensures their implementation.

Directly responsible for nursing practice in areas which do not directly report to the CNO.

**LEADERSHIP**

Determines direction, goals, and objectives of assigned areas and ensures implementation of strategic and operating plans. Directs the development of short and long range plans and budgets.

Serve as an advocate for nursing.

Maintain an environment where innovation and research are evident as well as an interdisciplinary approach with professional services and nursing in clinical care at the bedside.

Directs the strategic planning and business plan development process for the areas of assigned responsibility.

Assigns responsibility to individuals or groups of nursing staff members to act on improving the nursing service's performance.

Utilizes systematic methods of resolving problems and institutes corrective action: utilizes the concept of change theory.

Collaborates with other hospital leaders in designing and providing patient care and services, and supports systems integration within Sharp HealthCare through coordination of outcomes by gaining commitment from administration, physicians, nursing and other corporate and non-corporate staff throughout Sharp HealthCare.

Supports the professional development of management and clinical staff performance to maximize contributions towards established goals.

**CUSTOMER SERVICE**

Provides and maintains effective communication with medical staff, the community and all levels of established management.

Ensures patient satisfaction and clinical excellence as well as physician and employee satisfaction.

Establish visible presence in the facilities and services to solicit feedback regarding performance, needs, etc.

Evaluates and analyze programs, services and financial performance and implement appropriate actions based on identified opportunities for improvement.

Participates in medical staff committees and employee meetings as required.
