Description
The SICU Registered Nurse assumes responsibility andaccountability for applying the nursing process and delivery of patient care inthe Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), sometimes referred to as Post AnesthesiaCare Units (PACUs). The Registered Nurse consistently performs according tonursing standards and is accountable for managing patient care post-operativelyand assisting others in the management of patients as they come out ofanesthesia.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement andevaluate patient care
Performs focused interview to identify specific patient'sneeds
Assesses signs and symptoms indicating physiologic andpsychosocial changes in the patient's condition
Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information fromhealth care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
Plans for expected outcomes of care for those patientsassigned
Closely observes patients for signs of side effects ofanesthesia medication
Treats pain, nausea, and other post-operative symptoms ofanesthesia
Communicates nursing interventions, expected outcomes, andthe time frames for expected completion, to other members of the hospitalhealth care team
Functions as a resource to the health care team members inplanning for patient's discharge
Documents the patient's plan of care using identifiednursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursinginterventions
Identifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient carerequirements
Performs interventions according to identified priorities,plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment
Initiates and evaluates patient and/or family education
Compares expected and actual outcomes of care and identifiesdeviation from the plan of care
Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practices
2 years of SICU, PACU or ICU experience preferred
CPAN and CAPA certifications preferred
ACLS may be required per state/contract
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
