The Procedural Nurse utilizes a systematic approach to nursing by incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the practice of nursing. Provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.
Qualifications:
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS College Diploma in Nursing CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (AHA) within 1 year and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (AHA) within 1 year and Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA) within 30 days. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS None Specified ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients.
Moderate sedation certification.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others.
Essential Functions:
Provides and facilitates competent health care of patients and families in area of practice. Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
Acts as preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
Responsible for obtaining instrument trays and equipment for procedures.
Positions patient for procedure in accordance with patient safety guidelines.
Scrub arms and hands and assist the surgical team to scrub and put on gloves, masks, and surgical clothing.
Scrubs in for surgical cases with physician.
Established knowledge of creating and maintaining a sterile field, scrubbing and assisting within the surgical procedure and the use of specialized beds and positioning equipment, as well as sterilizers and specialized video equipment, navigation, and lasers used with the department.
Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after operation.
Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors and cut sutures, and perform other tasks as directed by surgeon during operation.
Prepare, care for, and dispose of tissue specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
Operate, assemble, adjust, or monitor sterilizers, lights, suction machines, or diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation.
Prepare dressings or bandages and apply or assist with their application following surgery.
Identifies, selects and coordinates equipment, instruments and supplies required for scheduled procedure with circulating nurse.
