Extending clinical research throughout this statewide network of care in order to provide more opportunities for these patients to participate in research is an integral part of the vision and requires significant coordination. The Medical School Office of Research and the Michigan Institute for Clinical & Health Research (MICHR) have developed a team to ensure that researchers across the U-M Health Statewide Network of Care are supported in extending clinical research opportunities to patients, while also adhering to the unique administrative and regulatory requirements that are needed when working across affiliated and collaborating sites. MICHR is seeking a highly organized Research Administrative Specialist to support the U-M Health Statewide Clinical Research Partnerships (SCRP) team in this work.

The Research Administrative Specialist will support the Director, IRB Coordinated Services/Practices and Strategic Partnerships, in advising study teams on the specific administrative and regulatory requirements related to research with U-M Health affiliates. The Research Administrative Specialist will have or develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of the resources available to assist study teams, as this knowledge will enable the Research Administrative Specialist to function as a liaison for inquiries related to establishing research with U-M health affiliates. The Research Administrative Specialist will ensure that consultation and support from SCRP is provided in a timely manner and will also monitor and track progress on work with study teams. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who will be able to identify opportunities for improvement in workflows and suggest solutions, is comfortable working on multiple projects concurrently, and is effective at working with others to problem-solve and achieve common goals.

**Responsibilities***

Responsibilities of the Research Administrative Specialist include, but are not limited to:

Serving as the primary point of contact for investigators/study teams seeking to conduct research with the U-M Health Statewide Network of Care and responding to inquiries promptly and professionally.

Serving as the first point of contact and triage for SCRP email groups and escalating emails to the appropriate staff member as needed.

Assessing study team needs and preparing background material based on the initial intake form and additional exploration in the U-M research management system as necessary.

Discussing the pre-consultation assessment with the Director, IRB Coordinated Services/Practices, and Strategic Partnerships to decide which projects require a consultation and which can be handled by referral to an appropriate resource.

Attending all meetings with study teams and the Director, IRB Coordinated Services/Practices and Strategic Partnerships, documenting consultation notes, and providing a follow-up summary to the study team regarding what was understood and the next steps.

Developing study-specific project plans to track study needs, prioritizing among multiple concurrent projects, and ensuring administrative checks are completed by monitoring progress on plans.

Collaborating with study team members, affiliate colleagues, and various department contacts to facilitate implementation of the plan that will enable the study team to conduct research with affiliates.

Supporting the work of SCRP in data collection and measurement of metrics by entering data and maintaining up-to-date records.

Identifying opportunities to implement the SCRP consultation and follow-up processes most effectively and developing efficient and effective workflows and procedures to address these opportunities.

Reporting metrics regarding study status at/with U-M Health Statewide Network of Care locations.

Providing support for the MICHR Resident Research Mentoring Program.

**Required Qualifications***

Bachelor's Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Three or more years of combined professional experience working in hospitals/health systems, academic institutions, industry, and/or research organizations.

Demonstrated experience in research study coordination, clinical trials management, and/or regulatory oversight.

Track record of building and/or improving workflows and processes.

Evidence of past success with concurrently managing multiple tasks and/or projects.

**Desired Qualifications***

Substantial experience with academic research enterprises and/or clinical trials, including aspects such as: Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, externally sponsored research, research administration, and compliance.

Experience using eResearch.

Past success with coordinating across multiple stakeholders and partners.
