Summary The Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1a Facility. The Indianapolis based VA Medical Center is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. This facility is affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine, providing a platform for educational services for students, interns and residents. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Duties include but are not limited to: Completes initial assessment of patient condition and response to treatment and initiates follow-up as needed. Safely and effectively uses patient care equipment. Correctly and safely performs nursing procedures. Provide nursing care to veteran patients Documentation of assessments, changes in patient condition, collaboration with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes Provide a full range of nursing care to ER patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems Accountable for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards and functional statements of assigned grade Based on education and experience, may be assigned responsibilities as a preceptor or charge nurse. Demonstrates integration of biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in providing care to clients with simple or complex needs. Administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager and responsible for other team members, i. e., LPN, HT, Escort. Performs other related duties as required by Nurse Manager. Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Considers all characteristics of the individual, including age and life stages, state of health, race and culture, values, and previous experiences. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2024. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant. [NOTE: See exception in subparagraph (b) below for candidates who are enrolled in a MSN Bridge Program.] The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), previously known as the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) OR The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. In these programs, students are given a certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX and should submit this certification to VA prior to appointment. Students do not earn a BSN, but receive a MSN degree upon completion of course work. A copy of the MSN transcript must be provided to VA. Bridge programs that confer a master's degree also fully meet the education requirement, even though a Bachelor's Degree is not awarded. OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Registration: A registered nurse (RN) will have a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i. e., Puerto Rico) of the U. S. or in the District of Columbia. The appointing official may waive this registration if the RN is to serve in a country other than the U. S. and the RN has registration in that country (e. g., Philippines). The RN must maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration to continue employment with VA.
