Summary:
Coordinate total nursing care for the perioperative patient by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating. Participates in patient and family teaching. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the surgical setting. Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nursing Program, BSN preferred
Current registration as registered nurse in New York State
Current BLS validation
Recent surgical experience required (2 year minimum)
If no applicants have surgical experience, the applicants meeting the following criteria will be considered next:
Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nursing Program, BSN preferred
Current registration as registered nurse in New York State
Operating Room experience or experience in procedural areas (endoscopy, cath lab, IR) or perioperative nursing course required
Current BLS validation
If no applicants meet the above criteria, the following criteria will be considered next:
Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nursing Program, BSN preferred
Current registration as registered nurse in New York State
Current BLS validation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Participates in educational conferences and upgrades and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to the area of responsibility, maintains confidentiality, understands the legal aspects of the job function, and adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
Has an obligation to conserve supplies, equipment and time in a cost-effective environment.

Activity includes balancing, lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, constant walking and heavy work. The ability to cope with stress and handle multiple priorities is required.
