Summary The Nurse - Interventional Radiology (IR) Registered Nurse (RN) executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex IR patient care. The IR RN is responsible for direct patient care, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care and identifying outcomes for patient undergoing invasive procedures in IR. Responsibilities The Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse is a Registered Nurse who works well in a fast-paced hospital both inpatient and outpatient setting. The IR nurse provides nursing care to patients receiving a diagnostic imaging study by ensuring patient comfort and safety while collaborating with the Radiology staff to optimize patient throughout. The IR nurse is administering and monitoring conscious sedation medications throughout the procedure with an ordering and supervision by a Radiologist. The IR nurse monitors and assess the IR patients preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively in a phase 1 and phase 2 recovery area. IR nurses assess, monitors, and assist interventional cases under anesthesia together with anesthesia team. IR nurses are conducting preprocedural and postprocedural calls for all patients coming for procedure. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assesses patient prior to the initiation of sedation. Initiates sedation and monitors patient during course of the Radiologic examination or intervention. Recovers patient from sedation and/or interventional procedure. Collaborates with the team members of the various modalities in achieving completion of intervention or diagnostic examination. Educates patient and family to the intervention or diagnostic examination and discharge care. Demonstrates commitment to team, flexibility, professional, interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and customer service skills. Manages time and resources in a cost-effective manner. Maintains professional development of self and participates in development of others. Participates in achieving hospital/unit goals. Assists and insert peripheral IV insertions. Plans, evaluates, and implements interventions for solving IV related patient care problems. Performs other nursing duties including but not limited to assessment, sedation, IR procedures, recovery, patient education, patient follow up nd other duties as necessary. Demonstrates Customer Service standards (smiles and makes eye contact; greets each patient and visitor; seeks out patient and visitor contact; always displays appropriate body language; takes 5 minutes each day to go above and beyond for one patient or visitor; honors diversity Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports all accidents promptly nd corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace. Possesses a strong core knowledge base in nursing and has expanded clinical knowledge in radiation oncology nursing. Provides direct patient care including assessing, planning, health promotion, and psychosocial needs assessment during cancer treatment. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U. S. C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i. e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
