**Lactation Consultant - St Francis Medical Center**
**Job Summary:**
The Lactation Consultant's primary focus is the provision of education, assistance, and support of breastfeeding for women and children. The Lactation Consultant functions as a member of the health care team to promote, support, and protect breastfeeding.
**Essential Functions:**
Collects, interprets, and applies data collected from breastfeeding patient to provide appropriate interventions to meet patient's needs
Identifies and intervenes to address patient and family need for lactation support and educational needs
Acts as the leader and mentors other team members in lactation
Works toward the improvement of lactation services through continuing education offers to the staff of Perinatal services
Participates in the unit-based PI program and adheres to required patient care standards for the assigned area
Other duties as assigned
**Education:**
Associates or Bachelors in a healthcare related field (required)
Bachelors of Science, Nursing (preferred)
**Certifications:**
International Board of Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) (required and must be maintained)
**Experience:**
One (1) year of RN experience in a hospital setting working with postpartum breastfeeding mothers (preferred, not required)
**Training:**
EPIC Electronic Health Record training (required)
