Job Description

Educates obstetrical patients and their significant others in maternity services available, breastfeeding techniques, baby care, self-care and infant CPR. Provides continuing education to all disciplines of Lenox Hill Hospital caregivers.

Job Responsibility

* Conducts patient classes in post discharge instructions, breastfeeding, baby care, infant behavior, and infant CPR. Develops daily class schedules in conjunction with the Head Nurse. Distributes class schedules to patients and invites them to attend.

* Provides bedside consultation for breastfeeding mothers.

* Reviews newborn screening specimen slips, assures completeness of slips, logs specimens, and prepares for mailing.

* Conducts tours of Maternal Child Health department. Informs prospective patients of Lenox Hill Hospital maternity service routines.

* Performs direct patient care when assigned by nursing management.

* Participates in quality improvement projects including continuing education presentations and data collection, updates policies, procedures and standards, as needed.

Performs related duties as required.

Job Qualification

Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, preferred.

Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.

Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Staff Nurse in Maternal Child Health nursing. One (1) year concentrated experience in post partum well baby care, within the past 2 years.

Lactation consultant certification (IBCLC) or active applicant for lactation consultant exam.

Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills. Public speaking skills. Ability to teach and counsel. Good problem solving abilities.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the determining a team member's base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e. g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

The salary range for this position is $55.59-$87.71/hour
