*This is an open fulltime Career Service Nutrition Educator position at the Department of Health in Lee County.*

This is specialized work under the direction of the Nutrition Program Director. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and provisions of nutrition services of the WIC site. It requires a high degree of accuracy, involves close interactions with other personnel of the CHD, and maintenance of confidentiality. Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties. This position may serve clients who speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. It may require performance of interpreter duties, if bi-lingual, or implementation of the Department's Limited English Proficiency Plan. Performs other duties as required.

NUTRITION RISK DETERMINATION AND DOCUMENTATION: Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk care plan using the SOAP format. Refers all medically high-risk clients to the licensed dietitian. Completes FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided.

NUTRITION EDUCATION: Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client using the VENA concept to provide appropriate nutritional counseling.

CLIENT REFERRALS: As necessary, refers client to appropriate outside agency, documenting referral. Assigns appropriate food packages. Completes FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided.

BREASTFEEDING: Protects, promotes, and supports breastfeeding; assures local site reflects a Breastfeeding Friendly atmosphere. Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breast pumps per Local Agency guidelines. Promotes breastfeeding classes with all prenatal clients. Refers clients to Breastfeeding team as needed.

HEALTH TECH:Collects and records medical data (height/length, weight, and hemoglobin levels) of WIC clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Transcribes all medical data to the FL-WiSE system. Completes the Lab/Anthro screen with proper measurement conversions for women, infants, and children. Properly maintains bio-hazardous materials according to FDOH and CHD requirements. Follows FDOH and Lee CHD policies regarding prevention of blood borne pathogen transmission.

ADMINISTRATIVE: Completes assigned administrative projects and reports in a timely fashion. Participates in Quality Assurance activities.

OTHER: Participates in ongoing nutrition education activities with local agency. Provides nutrition education and general services at Outreach events. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

Knowledge of prenatal, breastfeeding, postpartum, infant and child nutrition.

Knowledge of breastfeeding benefits and ability to promote, protect and support it.

Knowledge and experience performing anthropometrics.

Knowledge and experience performing hematological measures.

Ability to provide nutrition education for individuals and groups.

Ability to assess nutritional status and develop basic nutrition education plans.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's or master's degree from a US accredited College or University in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics, or public health nutrition. WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, Chapter 6, Section 6-5b.

Other job-related requirements for this position:

Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.

This position will abide by all state and federal laws, rules, and DOH policies and procedures.

Incumbent will have access to records containing social security numbers in the performance of job duties.

Incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have a motor vehicle to carry out these duties.

Selected immunizations or tithers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.

This position is authorized to transport confidential information outside of established DOH-Lee facilities and must comply with parameters defined in DOHP 50-10.

This position is classified as sensitive. This individual will perform tasks defined as sensitive and handles confidential information. Background screening is a condition of employment.
